Want to find out what life is like working within our Search Professional Services team? We spoke to Alex Hampson, part of our marketing recruitment consultant team, about his recent promotion to senior consultant and what life is like working at Search.

What does a typical day of a marketing recruitment consultant role involve?

The start of a typical day usually involves catching up with all the candidates and clients that I’m currently working with. It’s important to me that I keep almost constant contact with both parties, not just so I can represent them as well as possible, but also so I can develop a good relationship with them. If I have a new role on with a client, I will have meetings to discuss the role and marketing agency in detail, and then I’ll set about calling the best candidates in my network to talk about their suitability.

How did you get into your current job role?

I spent 2 years working within marketing agencies before moving into the recruitment sector. During my journey at Search, I have undergone a promotion from recruitment consultant to senior consultant. This came as a result of me surpassing the promotion target. At Search promotions are very transparent; there’s no set amount of time you have to wait, you just need to reach your targets.

What is Search like as a place to work?

Search is a great place to work. In the Professional Services team in Leeds, we often have team nights out, cooked breakfasts on a Monday and afternoon team meetings with pizza and beer on a Friday. This is a team with amazing ambition as well. What more is there to say? The office atmosphere is fantastic, full of ambitious and talented people, and there’s not a bad apple amongst us.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

My favourite parts of the job are the amount of people I get to talk to, and the varied relationships I build. Working with clients in the marketing agency world I have the opportunity to chat with some extremely creative people, both candidates and clients.

What advice would you have for anyone thinking of a career at Search?

It’s hard work with peaks and troughs, but it pays off and becomes an incredibly rewarding job. Search recognises your hard work with their High Flyers rewards scheme, so exciting trips away, treats and other incentives become part of what makes the job great!

What is your favourite moment from your time here at Search?

Everyone’s first fee in a new role is always exciting. However, having a major birthday, my largest fee, my best month and crossing the threshold for my recent promotion all in the same few days was pretty great! That also then led to a 7 course tasting menu meal at a Michelin starred Indian restaurant as a bonus reward, which was incredible too!

What do you think the future holds for you at Search?

In my Search future I’m hoping to begin managing my own team which I can grow to become the best specialised marketing agency recruiting team in the country. Dream big!
