When asked about my job, I often describe Search as a large company with a family feel - combining the support and infrastructure of a large corporate business with the innovation and agility to make changes and reward the efforts of staff at all levels.
Search Consultancy was founded 30 years ago in Glasgow, and has since expanded to 15 locations throughout the UK. After working as a recruiter in Glasgow for 12 years, where I frequently found myself competing with Search for business, I figured that if I couldn’t beat them I would join them. My decision to take the leap came from a desire to work for an employer which would not only nurture my professional development, but also recognise my efforts and reward my achievements. Imagine my delight when after just 15 months at Search, I was approached by my Manager for a promotion! Needless to say, I have not looked back since.

What life at Search's Glasgow office looks like
While life at Search’s Glasgow office is extremely fast-paced and busy, it is also productive, exciting and fun! We work with people from all walks of life, catering for a wide range of skills and industries - from production people to accounts, marketing to call centre, and sales to engineers. Although we interact with so many candidates who boast a diverse range of skills and personalities, we truly are a specialist in our sectors, meaning that both individuals and businesses benefit from our expertise, relationships and knowledge in each field.
In addition to meeting candidates on a daily basis, getting to know them and facilitating their future career moves, our office also receives frequent visits from clients who value our market knowledge and insight. For example, my Call Centre Recruitment team regularly runs assessment centres in conjunction with our clients, which is a great way to ensure we build solid relationships and our clients get the very best people to work in their businesses.
Many global businesses have their headquarters or offices in Glasgow, and the city’s reputation for talent is fantastic. At Search we not only partner with many of these internationally-acclaimed organisations, but also with smaller companies aiming to grow.
What makes our office a great place to work
Our Glasgow office is a hive of constant noise and activity, with no shortage of opportunities to develop true friendships which go beyond the work environment. Our teams get together regularly to share ideas and brainstorm new ways to ensure we remain at the forefront of our industry. But that’s not all, we also reward hard graft in a number of different ways.
From firestone walking, to abseiling, to football matches and annual Christmas parties, we are a culture that likes to work hard and play hard! Every quarter, we have a high flyers event which brings together the best of the best within our office to celebrate their achievements in style. At the end of each month, we organise drinks and nibbles to encourage staff to bond and have some much-needed down time. We also have dress down days to support a number of local charities, including Glasgow Children’s Hospital and Social Bite.
As a company which continuously recognises and rewards the achievements of its people, the wider business will also reward exceptional performances across the UK. For example, one of my teams and I will be treated to a day and night at a 5 star lodge to celebrate a huge revenue milestone.
But what truly makes our office a great place to work is our people. We have a diverse range of personalities with a significant majority falling into the big character bracket, from singers and dancers, to those who play sports, and even shy types who are at their best with a drink in hand! Although we are all unique and sometimes there may be a clashing of personalities, we are all united by a strong sense of team spirit.
