In this month’s Consultant Career Story, we speak with Luis Davies, Associate Consultant in Search’s Healthcare team.

Luis joined Search in September 2025 after graduating from university and was promoted within his first six months. Here, he shares what led him into recruitment, what’s helped him build early momentum, and what it’s like working in the Healthcare market.

Can you tell us about your background before joining Search and what led you into recruitment?

Before getting into recruitment, I studied Sports Business Management at university. Sport has always been a big part of my life, playing football and tennis to a good level growing up.

What attracted me to recruitment was the earning potential and the opportunity to build a career in an industry that suited my skill set. It felt like a role where I could apply my communication skills and work towards something long-term.

What made you choose Search?

There were a few reasons, but the biggest one was the initial impression I got from Chris and Richard.

They’re both people I felt motivated to work hard for from the start, and that’s definitely been the case since joining. I also liked the idea of working for a larger business, where there are clear opportunities to develop and strong internal support in place.

You were promoted within your first six months — what do you think has helped you progress so quickly, and what has that journey been like?

For me, it comes down to motivation and consistency.

I’ve been focused on doing well from day one and building strong relationships with both candidates and clients, which has been key to my early success.

The support from the team has also made a big difference. Being able to learn from experienced people around me and ask questions has helped me build confidence quickly and keep improving.

What does a typical day in the Healthcare team look like, and what do you enjoy most about the market?

Healthcare is a great market to be part of, especially early in your career.

There’s a lot happening across the division. The permanent team is growing, the temporary team in Manchester performs at a high level, and there’s strong collaboration across the wider team, which makes it a great environment to learn.

What I enjoy most is the impact of the work. Placing candidates into roles that support the wider population brings a real sense of satisfaction to the day to day.

How would you describe the culture at Search and within your team?

The office is a really positive place to be.

There are experienced people around you who are always willing to help, which makes a big difference when you’re learning. It’s a good balance between professionalism and an enjoyable working environment, which helps keep everyone motivated.

What advice would you give to someone considering a move into recruitment or joining Search?

Recruitment can be a highly rewarding and lucrative industry if you’re willing to put the work in.

Having a strong work ethic and clear motivation to succeed is key. If you have that, there’s a lot of opportunity to build a successful career.
