About this role

Job Opportunity: Specialist Fire Stopper (Bat & Mastic)

Location: Durham & surrounding areas

Pay Rate: £22.00 per hour (CIS)

Hours: Full-time (40+ hours per week, Monday - Friday)

Duration: Ongoing contract

The Opportunity

Are you a qualified Passive Fire Protection Operative looking for an ongoing contract close to home in County Durham?

Search Consultancy is recruiting a specialist Fire Stopper for a major development in Durham. This position focuses on core passive fire protection installation-specifically high-grade mineral wool bat and intumescent mastic penetration sealing across wall, floor, and service voids.

If you hold a valid Blue or Gold CSCS card, an active IPAF ticket, and a proven background in bat and mastic applications, this role offers a consistent £22.00/hr CIS rate with stable, long-term site continuity.

Your Role & Responsibilities

Working on a commercial/multi-room project in Durham, your primary focus will be bringing structural compartments up to tested life-safety fire standards:

  • Bat & Mastic Installation: Measuring, cutting, and fitting fire-rated coated mineral wool bat and applying intumescent mastic seals around service penetrations, pipework, cables, and ductwork.

  • Linear Gap Sealing: Sealing movement joints, head-of-wall details, and floor-to-wall interfaces using tested fire stopping sealants and backing materials.

  • IPAF Operations: Operating scissor lifts or boom lifts safely to execute fire stopping works at height and along elevated service corridors.

  • Manufacturer Compliance: Working strictly to technical data sheets, tested details, and manufacturer guidelines to ensure all installations meet strict fire compartmentation rules.

  • Quality & Auditing: Maintaining clean, tidy workmanship that easily passes third-party safety audits and sign-offs.

What We're Looking For

To satisfy site entry and safety regulations, applicants must possess:

  • CSCS Card: A valid Blue (Skilled Worker) or Gold (Advanced Craft / NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Passive Fire Protection) CSCS card is strictly mandatory. (Green or Red cards cannot be accepted).

  • IPAF Ticket: A valid IPAF card (Categories 3a & 3b) is essential for operating powered access equipment on site.

  • Trade Background: Proven hands-on experience in passive fire protection, specifically proficient in high-volume bat and mastic application.

  • Tools & PPE: Full professional kit of fire stopping hand tools, battery mastic guns, and standard 5-point PPE.

  • Right to Work: Valid proof of right to work in the UK.

Why Work With Search?

  • Competitive Rate: £22.00 per hour paid under CIS.

  • Ongoing Continuity: Secure long-term work on a stable County Durham project without the stress of short-term covers.

  • Convenient Location: Great site accessibility from across Durham, Chester-le-Street, Washington, and the wider A1(M) corridor.

  • Dependable Weekly Payroll: Accurate, hassle-free CIS payments processed directly into your bank account every single Friday.

  • Dedicated Regional Support: Direct contact with our North East construction team, keeping top fire stoppers continuously employed across local sites.

Search is an equal opportunities recruiter and we welcome applications from all suitably skilled or qualified applicants, regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/beliefs, sexual orientation or age
