Trainee Transport Planner (Fixed Term Contract)

£22,000 - £25,500

Preston

Monday - Friday, 37.5 Hours per week

Rotating shift pattern 8:00 - 16:00, 10:30 - 18:30, 12:00 - 20:00, 8:00 - 18:30

Duties & Responsibilities:-

  • Transport planning for road tankers and petrochemical products
  • Working in partnership with the driver team, customer and planning department you will ensure the effective daily management and execution of the plan
  • Responsible for planning road tankers and taking customer bookings
  • You will manage the day to day activities of own fleet, core/agency drivers and sub contractors
  • Input agreed data into our Transport Management System; driver's hours, fuel usage, mileage etc
  • Allocate vehicles, drivers and route to the dispatch schedule
  • Ensure vehicles are in correct and safe working condition
  • Ensure that all company Health & Safety policies are adhered to
  • Build an excellent relationship and interaction with the driving team
  • General administration duties in line with transport legislation, company policies and procedures.

Required Skills:-

  • Graduate within transport and logistics (desirable)
  • Transport office or transport coordinator experience
  • Tanker and ADR route planning experience (desirable)
  • Have a working knowledge of UK geography
  • Transport Planning experience (desirable)
  • Previous experience of working within a faced paced transport / logistics department
  • Able to organise work load in a consistent and methodical way
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, relationship building and a strong communicator
  • Ability to plan, prioritise, work to deadlines, without supervision and on their own initiative
  • High levels of drive and enthusiasm
  • Meticulous in their approach
  • Dynamic and proactive
  • Numerate and IT literate
  • Experience in dealing with and taking bookings from clients, hauliers and overseas partners
