Transport Commercial Manager

£30,000 - £40,000 (depending on experience)

Leyland, Preston

Monday - Friday (40 Hours Per week)

Key Responsibilities:-

  • Responsible for the P & L of the Transport Operation in terms of revenue
  • Ensure that warehouse and haulage services keep pace with the growth of the business by assisting to develop new partnerships
  • Provide innovative and efficient solutions that will improve service standards or improve profitability.
  • Identify, develop and secure new business opportunities with existing and potential customers
  • Retain business by ensuring that all service level agreements and standards are achieved
  • Provide accurate management information, statistics and reports as required
  • Prepare and produce commercial reports as required, in conjunction with the Accounts department
  • Develop positive working relationships with other departments so that the department can work as efficiently as possible
  • Contribute towards the development of the overall business strategy, ensuring that departmental objectives are aligned with those of the business
  • Promote a culture within the department that puts customers first
  • Ensure the site transport operation complies with all legal standards
  • Effecting the scheduling of work ensuring compliance with both vehicle and tachograph legislations
  • Effectively deal with customer complaints and account queries
  • Daily liaison with customers, both internal and external
  • Visit customers to gain their confidence and to gain additional work
  • Manage existing customers and gain new business and liaise with the Operations Director
  • Ensure all work carried out by transport is charged at the correct rates and invoiced to the correct customers
  • Keep customers updated on progress with potential problem loads

Required Skills:-

  • Previous experience of customer management within a FMCG distribution network
  • Proven experience within the transport industry in a customer service and sales environment
  • Transport operational experience within a fleet of HGV's
  • Experience within a FMCG transport operation
  • Experience of growing and developing backhaul networks
  • Demonstrated ability for problem solving
  • Excellent relationship and managerial skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to identify mistakes and correct them
  • Attention to detail- Highly accurate
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Strong organisational & Prioritisation skills
  • CPC (desirable)
