The position of Trainee Accountant is a new position within the European Finance Accounting Team, which consists of 65+ staff and is part of the centralised European Finance Department split between our Glasgow & Greenock sites. This role will be based in Glasgow and will report to the European Statutory Compliance Manager (“ESCM”), who in turn reports to the Head of Finance for Europe.
As a trainee accountant, the primary responsibility of this role will be the provision of support across the European Statutory Compliance team for the various reporting requirements. The principle responsibility being to support the Statutory Compliance team in the quarterly preparation of consolidated statutory results and the accompanying regulatory reporting for the two Belgium Insurance companies, along with additional support for the provision of annual statutory accounts for Belgian, Swiss and UK reporting.
The candidate will also have responsibility to support in the preparation of the results of the Cigna Global Reinsurance Company (“CGRC”) and analysing variances to forecast on a monthly basis. CGRC is a Bermuda based company providing internal reinsurance services to the International insurance companies.
Additional responsibility will be to assist in the provision of quarterly analysis for Solvency II reporting. Solvency II Directives dictate the amount of capital that Insurance companies must hold to guard against insolvency and the role will require the collation of financial information from individual Line Accountants, to then be consolidated and analysed for onward reporting to theRisk & Actuarial teams.
This position will interface with key corporate accounting and treasury staff; international market accountants, actuarial teams as well as external regulatory stakeholders.
Supporting the preparation of the financial statements for 2 insurance companies registered in Belgium.
Supports management of CGRC by providing monthly analysis and commentary on the monthly operating results.
Preparation of branch financial statements for local reporting requirement in Switzerland.
Liaise with the various accounting teams to ensure results are accurate and provided in a timely manner.
Supports the ESCM with the preparation of the CGRC annual statutory filing as required by the Bermuda Monetary Authority.
Preparation and settlement of quarterly reporting to external reinsurers.
Supporting the preparation of Solvency II information for the 2 Belgium insurance companies. This includes the ability to identify, research, and explain variances.
Preparation of UK/European regulatory submissions e.g. ONS, ABI, FCA.
Supporting the automation of manual processes in order to improve efficiency and reduce reporting risk.
Ad hoc duties as required.
