Operations Technician

Search are proud to be working with a fast growing energy company on their search for a Operations technician. This role will be to assist the Operations Manager of Gas Generation and support him in running a growing portfolio of gas fuelled power stations. You will ensure that our power plants are kept operational by carrying out remote monitoring, regular site visits, and liaising with our commercial team and your line manager to meet availability and performance requirements.

This is a full time permanent role with office working in Greenock/hybrid working and occasional travel to relevant projects.


  • Support the General Manager O&M in day to day management and planning of operations in pursuit of the companies goal to remain a top decile generator owner/operator.
  • Required to operate several different systems/tools to efficiently monitor, analyse and report the performance of our fleet of flexible generation sites.
  • Carry out routine visits to ensure the sites are operating safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
  • Generate, compile and update site reports to capture performance data on engines and the wider balance of plant.
  • Contribute to the development, review and update of emergency, security, safety, operational and environmental plans, and procedures to ensure safe and cost-effective operation of plant and equipment.
  • Target, investigate and resolve any engine availability or reliability issues with third party support.
  • Coordinate and supervise third party contractors such a ground maintenance, security, telecoms, and other utility contractors where appropriate.
  • Assisting in outage planning, scheduling and co-ordination and completing operational procedures to ensure the plant is in the correct state for return to service after maintenance, outage or other prolonged shut down.
  • Occasionally assist in due diligence activities for new developments, funding, and acquisition activities.


  • C&G/NVQ Level 3 minimum in Engineering/Plant Operations or Apprentice qualified (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working in Power Generation in an Operations or commissioning based role. This can be from a CHP (Combined Heat and Power), Energy from Waste, Biomass, CCGT or similar Power Station.
  • Operated, controlled and undertaken work within Safe Systems of Work.
  • Understanding of health and safety legislative requirements.
  • Ability to understand and learn to operate equipment.
  • Good team working skills, allowing you to work well as part of a wider team, and alone when required, to ensure we are working as effectively as possible.
  • Excellent communication skills to ensure effective communication with third party contractors and various parts of the business.
  • Possess relevant training certification and/or evidence of competencies to support knowledge and experience.
