Search Consultancy are partnering with a global leader in providing specialist bulk logistics for a number of industries to bring a night controller to join their growing team!

Summary of the role:

As part of a busy team you will report to the Planning Operations Manager. This role has direct responsibility for ensuring that all customers are supplied with deliveries in the most safe and cost effective manner, whilst providing excellent customer service.

My clients ideal candidate will have strong transport planning skills and be able to carry out operational and administrative work. This will include meeting any specific customer requirements whilst adhering to legal compliance and my clients safety criteria at all times.

Key responsibilities:

  • requirement to update transport and resource management systems with any changes to the planned work or resource. You will monitor the progress of all deliveries and report any delays whilst being able to proactively anticipate any possible delays and amend the existing schedule to prevent these from happening.
  • requirement to implement the scheduled daily plan through liaising closely with the drivers, both internal and external resource plus local workshops so any issues can be addressed as soon as possible.
  • be responsible for supervising the servicing, MOT and any recalls for all equipment, in conjunction with the Fleet Support Team, ensuring that all the necessary actions are executed on time.

About you:

The key skill areas are efficient planning, accurate data entry, record-keeping and reporting. For this you will need a good knowledge of computerised planning systems. You will also need the ability to deal with a variety of work challenges in a busy, fast moving department, working unsupervised. You must be confident and assertive with good interpersonal skills and be able to work under pressure and prioritise work, reacting to issues as they happen. An understanding of Drivers' Hours Regulations is also important and you should have knowledge of UK geography.


Essential: The successful individual will:

  • Have appropriate logistics/planning experience.
  • Live within a commutable distance
  • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Be proficient in IT, particularly Microsoft Office - Outlook and Excel.
  • Have achieved a GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C or above in Maths and English
  • Have the ability to interpret data accordingly and to prioritise tasks in line with business needs.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Have a confident and friendly telephone manner and be able to liaise with people at all levels of our organisation.

Desirable: The successful individual will:

  • Have working knowledge of UK geography.
  • Have access to your own transport.
  • Have experience of working in the transport industry and transport planning.
  • Have an understanding of Drivers' Hours Regulations.
  • Be CPC qualified, or hold other transport industry qualifications.
