Overview of Mechanical Engineering role

Reporting to the Power and Hydro Manager, the Mechanical Engineer's primary function within the organisation is to deliver major capital and operating expense projects, utilising the IPP project procedure to meet Power & Hydro dept requirements. Ensuring program, budget and engineering specification demands are met , while also providing additional engineering support.

The Mechanical Engineer will ensure all work is carried out in compliance with legal and procedural HSE expectations. Championing our safety culture to encourage openness, and challenge where necessary across all levels for both staff personnel and contract personnel on site.

Description of Duties & Responsibilities

Provide engineering support for the Power Station & Hydro System Operations
Will be Senior Authorised Person - Issuing of Safe Systems of Work i.e. Permits, LOA.
Establish project requirements and deliverables with client, defining project objectives and develop plan to satisfy customer needs.

Develop the technical scope of the project, prepare specifications and drawings, and deliver project programme.

Track progress of the project against plan and budget, manage change, and ensure client is updated throughout project.

Manage vendor relationships to obtain and evaluate quotations for work packages.

Prepare and issue tender documents.

Develop a risk management plan.

Ensure Best Available Techniques (BAT) are applied to solutions

Apply root cause analysis and take necessary corrective action to deal with project issues.

Manage contractors, hold progress meetings and ensure safe working practices are adhered to.

Ensure quality and specification are maintained throughout work programmes.

Ensure commissioning is carried out to specification.

Assist in the development and updating of Site directives inc. Hazardous Energy Control, Permit to Work System, Working from Heights, Confined Space etc.

Responsible for the development and updating of engineering standards ensuring best practices are implemented and standards comply with legislation changes

Qualifications & Experience
Mechanical Engineering Degree/ HND/ HNC qualification is desirable.
Experience in large scale Hydro-Power energy technologies beneficial.
Vendor/ Contractor Management experience.
Excellent Communication Skills
