How is the payroll market for you at the moment?

Payroll recruitment is currently busy with live jobs and an increase in demand from clients looking to strengthen their teams. Due to the current climate of staff furloughed or being made redundant there has been a rise in candidates with both payroll and accountancy experience looking for support with their job search. However, currently Accountancy Practice or Payroll Bureau experience is a highly required skill set but with job security and uncertainty being a priority for most payroll professionals, there is a very small proportion of candidates available with these attributes as they are in permanent positions.

What are the most sought after skills that hiring managers are looking for in payroll professionals?

Experience in processing end-to-end payroll and the knowledge to manually calculate UK wide tax allowances, rates and thresholds is invaluable. If this is not something you are familiar with in your job role, then I would recommend doing some research so you are able to confidently discuss your knowledge in these areas.

What advice would you give to someone applying for payroll jobs in the current climate?

Make sure your CV has a lot of detail about your professional payroll experience. Each payroll position can vary, so it’s all about understanding the depth of your knowledge and the complexity of the payrolls you have processed.

How to write a CV

Why should a payroll professional choose you to represent them?

I will spend time learning and understanding about your career history and what’s important to you when taking on a new role. We have a new online video platform, where we conduct face to face meetings to discuss your experience in detail and you get to put a face to person who is representing you. We confirm all compliance through this platform so you do not need to come in to the office to fill in any paper work. We can record candidates answering a couple of questions in regards to skill set, career history and background as to why an employer should hire you. This can then be sent to potential clients to make applications more personable. We have seen great success rates on the back of this especially as culture fit is important to businesses. We can also set up and conduct client interviews for candidates so there is no need for you to travel on public transport or their office environment.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love how passionate, hard working and loyal payroll professionals are. Your next move is all about career progression and self development, and I enjoy being that person who makes you excited to go to work in the morning.
