Celebrating 20 years at Search

In the past weeks, two more of our Glasgow-based central services colleagues have celebrated twenty years with Search.

Jennifer Sharp is a HR Administrator at Search and Ann Goldie is a team leader in Credit Control.

They both joined Search within a week of each other on 24th July and 1st August respectively, at a time when:

  • In football, France became the first team to win the World Cup and European Championship consecutively

  • Tiger Woods won the British Open Men’s Golf and became the youngest player at 24 to win all 4 major titles.

  • Robbie Williams topped the charts with Rock DJ.

Search was a much smaller place then than it is today, with ten offices around the UK, not the fifteen we have today. Here they reflect on their careers with Search.

What was your first day like with Search?

Jennifer: It feels like a very long time ago now but I do remember my first day at Search. I was a temp initially in a call centre for a few months which was great fun. Then an HR job  became available, so I went for it and was lucky enough to get offered the job.

On my first day I remember having to mark up the whole company's daily attendance by hand onto individual yellow cards!  Thankfully technology has moved on since then!

Ann: Well, walking into West Campbell Street was scary, having never been involved in recruitment, but as a credit controller you tend just to go with it, as it’s all about the money…

How has your role changed over the years?

Jennifer: As the company has grown and evolved over the years, my role has certainly grown with it and there is never a dull moment in our little HR office!

Ann: So much has changed, I was the only credit controller, with one credit manager and a cashier. The department has increased massively since then, but the job itself is still the same…chase the money which is owed to the business.

What has been the  greatest achievement in your career to date?

Ann: Being recognised by my peers for the Central Services Award at the Search Annual Awards.  I’ve never been so nervous in my life!!

Jennifer: My greatest achievement is probably still being here after all these years!

What do you love most about life at Search?

Ann: The people I work with, I have made some great friends in my years at Search, and value every one of them.

Why do you think you have stayed at Search for so long?

Jennifer: Search really is the best place to work with such great people, but without doubt the thing I love most about working for Search is the amazing team I have always had the luck to work with.  There have been changes over the years but we have always been so lucky to find the perfect fit for the team. If Carlsberg did team mates…

Ann: No one else would take me (joking), no honestly it doesn’t seem like 20 years. The job itself keeps me here, I love the buzz I get when we are all working together to achieve our targets.

What have you missed most whilst we have been in lockdown?

Jennifer: Not being in the office has been strange. I cannot wait to get back to work, back into the office, back to a normal routine, and back to see all my wonderful Search team mates and colleagues who I have really missed.

Ann: Everything. I have missed the interaction with my colleagues. Working from home is not for me.

Thank you to our head office colleagues

As we take steps back to a new normal, with offices re-opening, we hope to see Ann and Jennifer back in Atrium Court very soon.

Here’s a word from their line managers

“A huge congratulations to Ann on reaching her 20 year anniversary.  Ann’s experience and knowledge of both credit control and Search are absolutely invaluable to me. The team would be lost without her.  On a personal note,  I really enjoy working with Ann and look forward to many more years working together.”

- Karyn Du Vivier, Group Financial Controller

“Jennifer, I’m so proud to have you as part of team HR and to congratulate you on twenty years with Search. What an achievement this is, and testament to your strong work ethic and your supportive and helpful approach to the people within our business.”

- Jillian Fleming, HR Manager
