Find your better future.
Goodbye working unhappy, hello doing what you love. Trust our specialists to make your job search easy.
In spite of the challenging conditions we find ourselves in, it didn't didn’t stop three of our Finance colleagues celebrating 15 years with Team Search recently. Dawn Anderson, Senior Credit Controller, Grant Ferguson, Senior Management Accountant and Martin Jackson, Payroll Manager joined the business back in April 2005.
Search was a much smaller place then than it is today, with ten offices around the UK, not the fiteen we have today.
Back then, Tony Christie and Peter Kay's (Is This the Way to) Amarillo was at number one in the UK Charts, and shortly after, Chelsea were crowned winners of the Premier League in their first season under Jose Murinho and Rangers took the top spot in Scotland.
We caught up with them and reflected on life at Search over the years.
Dawn: Absolute madness and mayhem! It flew in.
Grant: I joined Search when I was at the end stage of my professional exams, so the first year was a challenge combining my new role and study. Whilst the company was much smaller back then, I was delighted to be part of a solid finance team. I will always remember meeting fellow new start and Aberdeen FC fan Martin, he has kept me entertained ever since.
Martin: My first year working with Search was a steep learning curve, coming from a pension payroll position and only a couple of years experience, I had a lot to learn about payroll and it was also a big change going from dealing with lovely pensioners on a daily basis to the unique personalities that are found in recruitment!
Dawn: There’s been so much change. When I started there were five us, and we are now a team of 20. Many of my colleagues back then are still with Search today.
Grant: The company has trebled in size since then, with growth into many new markets and it has been great to be a part of that working alongside some outstanding colleagues. Even in challenging times, I’ve learned the people at Search are able to thrive and make the most of opportunities.
Martin: Search as a business has grown massively year on year since I started in all areas. When I started, the entire finance department was housed in a small back office. We now work from a large, modern and vibrant offices in Glasgow.
Grant: When I started at Search, I used to report on purely Scottish team performance. Now I’m reporting on UK performance and providing more detailed information for decision making. Since joining the company when it only had a couple of finance professionals, It has been rewarding seeing staff develop and provide essential support to the business over the years.
Dawn: I started off as a credit controller, and then was promoted to senior credit controller. My main role hasn’t changed much, which sounds boring after all this time, but the day to day dealings with clients keeps me busy and entertained!
Martin: My role has changed massively over the 15 years. I started out as an inexperienced payroll administrator. As Search has grown, so has my career. I have completed the Diploma in Payroll Management through the CIPP and in June 2019 I was promoted to Staff Payroll Manager, overseeing 2 monthly payrolls and processing payment for around 1,000 employee/contractors each month.
Dawn: Knowing that if you put in the effort you get results. If you do well, the company does well.
Grant: Being part of a fantastic team and a company that values its long serving staff.
Martin: The people, some of who are the best people I know. There are opportunities to develop and progress. If you are willing to work hard at Search, then Search will fully support you in your career.
As we continue to move forward in tough market conditions, we are really grateful to all of our head office colleagues who are working extremely hard from home, ensuring our clients' and candidates' needs are met.
Karyn Du Vivier, Financial Controller at Search comments "I'd like to thank Dawn, Grant and Martin for their hard work, dedication and loyalty to Search over the past 15 years. Their hard work and commitment to the cause, especialy in such challenging circumstances is massively appreciated."
