Find your better future.
Goodbye working unhappy, hello doing what you love. Trust our specialists to make your job search easy.
As we reflect upon what has truly been one rollercoaster of a year, I cannot help but marvel what a crazy 12 months it has been. We got our tans on as we enjoyed the hottest summer in the UK’s history, and delighted in yet another fairy tale royal wedding.
We saw our boys in red and white make history through reaching the semi finals of the 2018 Fifa World Cup, uniting the nation in hope articulated through catchy, albeit slightly annoying tunes.
From a lead generation and recruitment perspective, we also saw GDPR come into force and Google for Jobs hit the UK. These are just a few of many developments which have disrupted the market, and have certainly made our lives at Search busy and eventful over the course of this year.
As we prepare to wave goodbye to 2018 and say hello to 2019, here’s our top highlights from this year.
At the start of 2018, our website underwent a makeover, which involved a brand new home page design to increase engagement and deliver an improved candidate experience. Through a bespoke Content Management System allowing deeper measurement and analytics, we have continued to improve our online presence and Search Engine Optimisation, all whilst remaining compliant with GDPR – which is a major plus!
Although ChatBots have only sprung into the world of recruitment fairly recently, many companies have jumped on this innovation to improve their recruitment processes - and we are no exception. Appreciating the reactive and fast-paced nature of high volume recruitment across the Call Centre and Customer Service sector, along with recognising that many of our candidates engage with us on Facebook, we also implemented a ChatBot to manage applications for some of our high volume campaigns across the UK. I’m delighted to say that this has proven to be a tremendous success.
I’m sure we can all agree that we look forward to seeing how these techie innovations develop over the course of 2019.
As part of our long-term growth strategy, we grew our nationwide tech recruitment offering through the acquisition of Henderson Scott, a market leader in technology recruitment with vast experience across the fast-evolving tech landscape. As our first acquisition since our management buyout in 2017, this investment has positioned us as the UK’s leading provider of technology recruitment and I’m excited to see how it continues to grow and develop in 2019.
Capitalising on our nationwide success in the construction market, we expanded to London in the beginning of 2018. Since then the team has continued to grow our construction presence in the capital, working closely with some of the biggest names in the industry. Speaking of which, the team is looking for an experienced recruiter to specialise in temp recruitment, so if you know anyone who fits the profile – let us know.
This year saw the launch of our dedicated Aviation hub in Manchester airport. Aviation is an increasingly strong growth sector for us and Manchester was the next natural destination for us to establish a permanent on-site team. Particularly when all eyes are on Manchester Airport as it undergoes its £1bn renovation.
I’m delighted to announce that both as a business and through the generosity of our exceptional people across the business, we have contributed a grand total of over £25,000 to leading charities throughout the UK. Of the total amount, a sizeable chunk of nearly £20,000 has been raised directly from employees across the business digging deep into their own pockets. I cannot stress enough how proud I am of everyone who has selflessly given of their time and hard earnings to support those who are most in need throughout England and Scotland.
This year, we were nominated for a string of awards which recognise our achievements as a business and the performance of our exceptional people. Here’s some of the trophies we’ve added to our cabinet in 2018:
Through combining a personal and consultative touch with digital and automated services, we continue to strive towards providing a seamless online experience to meet the needs of our candidates and our clients. What’s special about the National Online Recruitment Awards is that nominations are invited anonymously, then whittled down to a final shortlist by a team of judges who evaluate recruitment websites from a candidate's perspective, looking at ease of use, design, layout and speed amongst other criteria. Having only just relaunched our website earlier this year, I’m tremendously proud that we have won this award.
This year, Search Consultancy was nominated for a string of awards by the Institute of Recruitment Professionals (IRP), including Temporary Consultant of the Year, Permanent Consultant of the Year, Best Company to Work For (250+ Employees) and Business Leader of the Year. Our very own Chris Pritchard, Associate Director for Healthcare was awarded the Business Manager of the Year title – recognised for his achievements in 2018. Since joining Search over seven years ago, Chris has truly shone as a business manager, giving his teams autonomy while remaining supportive where needed. Through his process-driven attitude and pragmatic approach to business development, it’s fair to say he has truly earned this award.
Beyond our role as recruitment partners to a vast range of leading companies across the UK, we have also supported our clients through a number of events focusing on some of the biggest issues facing the business community today.
In a candidate-driven landscape, engaging the workforce is essential, and more employers realise how sharing the vision of their businesses in addition to upholding a progressive workplace culture is paramount to retention.
For this reason, and due to popular demand from our clients, we hosted a series of Talent Attraction and Retention seminars across the Northwest, giving employers and HR professionals with exclusive insight on how to create an effective employer brand on a budget, as well as retain talent when time and resources are limited.
Another hot topic in the UK’s business community is the shortage of women in tech. After publishing our nationwide Women in Tech 2018 report in September, we launched a series of Tech Smart Events across Glasgow and Edinburgh, with a special focus on enabling and empowering female talent within the sector.
But that’s not all! We also offered sponsorship towards a number of prestigious awards across various sectors we work with, including:
Growth Business of the Year - Dundee Courier Business Awards 2018
Chef Manager of the Year - Foodservice Catey Awards 2018
Learning & Development accolade - HR NETWORK Awards 2018
The dawning of a new year is a time to reflect on our experiences over the past 12 months, celebrating our successes whilst resolving to grow on both a personal and professional level. We have exciting plans for Search on the horizon, and we’re looking for people to help us write our 2019 chapter and take us to new heights of success. Are you looking for a fresh start in 2019? Then get in touch and let us help you make the change!
