As the biggest city in the East Midlands, Leicester is rich with history and unique quirks. Whether it’s international businesses, a thriving football team, or being employed within a leading UK recruitment agency, there’s no shortage of activities to keep you busy in Leicester - which in my opinion is one of the best cities in which to pursue a career in recruitment.

Initially attracted by the company’s core values and intimate family feel, I joined Search Consultancy’s Leicester office just over one year ago, where I was appointed as Divisional Manager for our Call Centre and Office Services recruitment teams.

Capitalising on its substantial growth over the years, Search Consultancy expanded to Leicester in 2016. Although our office is relatively new in comparison to the likes of Manchester and Glasgow, we undoubtedly have a lot of heart, and continue to cultivate and develop meaningful relationships with candidates and clients across all the markets we service, including commercial, healthcare, construction and professional services.

We are based just opposite the Leicester railway station, which is not only an ideal location for those of us who commute to work in our office every day, but also easily accessible for multitudes of candidates who visit and register with us. With room to accommodate over 100 employees, and a suite of interview and assessment rooms, our 5,200ft office is open plan, which makes for a great team environment and a heightened sense of camaraderie.

As is the nature of the exciting and fast-paced world of recruitment, our days are varied and filled with activity which keeps us on our toes. We frequently meet with candidates from all walks of life to discuss future opportunities or how they can get the most out of their current career prospects. We also communicate with our clients on a regular basis to identify where their greatest needs lie, and what we can do to support the growth of their respective businesses.

At the Leicester office, we pride ourselves on the inclusive, upbeat and interactive working environment we provide. But what truly makes our office a great place to work, is our people. We boast a diverse range of personalities across the nine different divisions we currently have here in Leicester, with each individual bringing something unique and valuable to the table.

We are also heavily involved in supporting the local community, and as such host and participate in a number of initiatives. To name a few, last year we sponsored the Leicester Women in Business Awards and also ran a mental health seminar as part of our nationwide mental health series educating employers and HR professionals about the importance of focusing on mental health in the workplace.

As a city, Leicester combines the best of country and city life with something for everyone. There are also so many different markets to tap into, thus making this city the perfect playground for ambitious and energetic consultants looking to further their careers.

According to data by the Leicester & Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership, Healthcare is among the city’s most populated sectors, making up over 10 percent of local employment, with retail following closely behind at just over 9 percent. Other significant industries in the local area are business administration and support services (7.8 percent) and professional, scientific and technical (7.7 percent). Construction is another driver of local activity, with many of the country’s foremost names based in Leicester. It’s no surprise that we have based our local recruitment offering around the significant level of growth and demand for talent within these sectors.
