Working in recruitment is often given a bit of bad press. It’s seen as a challenging profession with long hours and hard to reach sales targets.

1. Meeting Clients


Unlike most office jobs you aren’t chained to your desk all day. An important part of your job is meeting with clients to discuss the requirements they have. It could also mean attending events and networking as you look to secure new clients and business.


2. Meeting Candidates


Like finding and meeting with clients, it is also your job to source and screen candidates suitability for a role. As you could be sourcing for jobs anywhere from entry-level positions to industry leaders, this opens you up to meeting a wide variety of people.


3. Match Making


Effectively you are the real life version of Tinder or Match.com, only you’re doing it for jobs and not for love. Your role’s main goal is to match prospective candidates with your client’s requirements, and in essence is very similar to playing cupid.


4. Changing Someone’s Life


A person’s career is a massive part of their life, it can be where they spend the majority of their time, and is what provides for themselves and their families. People love their jobs! Therefore, helping someone make take the first steps in a new career, or enhance an existing career, can a massive impact on their life, and they have you to thank for it!


5. Go-To Person



As you have such a big impact on someone’s career you become an advisor. Offering career advice, recommending training courses or qualifications to undertake and helping them network. You are own hand to help them grow and develop as a professional in their field


It’s similar for your clients. As they look to enhance their business by bringing in the right people, you are on hand to help facilitate this, by recommending the best way to market themselves to attract rising talent.


6. Money


Recruitment is a sales orientated job; therefore, the financial benefits that come with it can be very rewarding. As a result of meeting targets you will, in most agencies, be rewarded with fantastic bonuses on top of an already good basic salary.



7. Challenging


To be successful in any career you need to be passionate and work hard. Like most sales jobs a recruitment agent is faced with targets and the requirement of being able to deal with rejection. This can make some days more challenging than others, but it’s also a great way to learn and develop new skills, and build your confidence.


8. Rewarding


No day is the same as a recruitment consultant, so that combined with significant financial rewards, company incentives and the joy of knowing you played in active role in helping change someone’s life for the better make it one of the most rewarding jobs you can have.


9. Work Hard, Play Hard


As a sales orientated role that requires focus, determination and passion to succeed you will find you work hard. However, the ‘Work Hard, Play Hard’ mantra is never truer than when describing a recruitment consultant.  With numerous networking, awards, client and candidate events, along with a strong bond with your team and peers, you will undoubtedly play just as hard as you work!
