West Dunbartonshire Council Jobs

Ready for a challenge?  We're ready for you.

"If you’re thinking about joining West Dunbartonshire Council, you’re in the right place.

If you don’t know West Dunbartonshire already, it’s a great place to live and work. The area is made up of rural, urban and waterfront locations and offers a range of new-build and traditional homes, all just half an hour from the heart of Glasgow. West Dunbartonshire has a rich past, shaped by its world-famous shipyards, and boasts many attractions, ranging from the rugged beauty of Dumbarton Rock to historic whisky warehouses, watched over by the famous guardian geese. The area connects the shores of the legendary Loch Lomond with the city of Glasgow, and is made up of a number of lively and growing towns and villages.

The Council itself may be one of Scotland’s smallest, but we have some big ambitions. And for people who can help realise them, we have a lot to offer in return. Our aim is to deliver best value, great working conditions and, above all, provide first-class service to the people who live and work in the region.

We’re working towards improving prosperity and inclusion for all citizens, delivering better and more efficient services and making West Dunbartonshire a great place to be.  If you can see yourself working towards these goals with us, we want to hear from you."

David McMillan, Chief Executive

Working Here

West Central Scotland is served by one of the best road links in the UK, putting the rest of Scotland, and the UK, within easy reach. West Dunbartonshire itself is just half an hour from Glasgow (via the A82 or M8) and our Dumbarton headquarters are just 15 minutes from Glasgow International Airport. Plus, a half-hourly train service provides connections to Loch Lomond, Glasgow and beyond.

We serve the region’s 90,000 people and thriving business community from our headquarters in Dumbarton and Clydebank, as well as several smaller offices across the region.

The region we serve is diverse and many members of our community face social, ecomonic and environmental challenges. Challenges we are committed to helping them address. As a forward thinking Council, our key priorities are regeneration and sustainable development, and we are focused on growing the local economy, revitalising the region’s town centres and waterfronts, and ensuring a great future for the next generation by providing a modern and effective education service.

We have already started work on achieving these goals, and our commitment to them has been recognised with several awards for our efforts to date. It’s something we’re hugely proud of, but it’s just the start.

Living Here

Whether you’re a dedicated townie, tempted by the waterfront lifestyle or a country loving soul at heart, you’ll feel at home here. The region boasts a range of homes in a range of locations, so whatever lifestyle you’re after, you can enjoy it here. Plus, although Glasgow is within easy reach, homes in the region don’t come at city prices.

Plus, the region’s schools perform well above the national average and many are set to benefit from a £100+ million modernisation programme.

With Loch Lomond at the heart of the region, the area is, perhaps unsurprisingly, fast becoming known not just for its stunning scenery but for the range of sports on offer. Golf, fishing, water-sports and some great walking are all close at hand.

For those who prefer to let their hair down, Glasgow’s vibrant nightlife is within easy reach. The city has been voted the UK’s favourite by Conde Nast Traveller and as well as the legendary nightlife, it boasts great galleries and superb shopping.
