Marine Engineer Jobs

As the renewable energy sector grows and we strive to harness power from wave and tidal energy sources, Marine Engineers Jobs will be available.

Typically Marine engineers design, construct and maintain marine systems and equipment, and offshore installations. They work in shipbuilding, at sea, on board ship, in marine surveying and in ship repair. They are also involved in the design, construction, modification, operation and maintenance of offshore platforms and pipelines and in developing renewable energy sources such as wind energy and wave power.

Within a renewable energy company, a Marine Engineer will work alongside Mechanical Engineers as part of a team to research, identify and implement marine renewable energy devices.

Marine engineers will support the design of marine data collection campaigns for wave & tidal applications, operating and developing existing hydraulic modeling techniques and supply technical analysis services on wave and tidal energy projects throughout the feasibility, design and consenting phases.

Typically a Marine EngineerJob involves:

  • Conduct analytical, environmental, operational, or performance studies in order to develop designs for products, such as marine engines, equipment, and structures.
  • Prepare, or direct the preparation of, product or system layouts and detailed drawings and schematics.
  • Analyze data in order to determine feasibility of product proposals.
  • Confer with research personnel in order to clarify or resolve problems, and to develop or modify designs.
  • Investigate and observe tests on machinery and equipment for compliance with standards.
  • Conduct environmental, operational, or performance tests on marine machinery and equipment.
  • Prepare technical reports for use by engineering, management, or sales personnel.
  • Prepare plans, estimates, design and construction schedules, and contract specifications, including any special provisions.

Marine engineer jobs in the renewable energy sector are likely to have an Oceanography or related Bachelors or Masters degree and may have experience aboard vessels conducting surveys and collecting oceanographic data. Most states and countries require new engineers to become licensed before practicing their trade independently.
