Search's Simone becomes new Glasgow chair for Career Ready

The head of Search Consultancy’s business in Scotland has been selected to chair the Career Ready Local Advisory Board for Glasgow.

Simone Lockhart, Search Consultancy’s managing director for Scotland, is set to take over the role from Zaigi Vilcins, Glasgow Finance Chief Operating Officer for Morgan Stanley. Simone will lead board members in opening the door to the business world for young people across the 22 and growing participating Glasgow secondary schools.

National charity Career Ready links Local Authorities and their schools with employers to help prepare young people for the world of work, through their two year programme.

Managing director since 2010, and the driving force behind the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games recruitment campaign carried out by Search ahead of the event, Simone is well placed to add her expertise on the best strategies to ensure Glasgow’s students are ready for the challenges of employment and are inspired about their future careers.

As part of the link up, Search will take on five students, three in Glasgow and two in Dunfermline.  The students will be mentored throughout the two year Career Ready programme on everything from uncovering their strengths and talents and exploring career pathways that excite and inspire them, to offering advice on how to brand and sell themselves to their future employers.

The mentors will support the students in the lead up to a paid internship in the summer between fifth and sixth year.  This gives the student the chance to gain real experience of the working environment and for Search to benefit from the insights, enthusiasm and contributions of young people.

Speaking of her new role with the organisation, Simone said: “Personally, making a difference to young people and helping the next generation make the transition from school to work is something very close to my heart. I was once a student eager to make my way in the business world so I fully support the fantastic work carried out by Career Ready.

“As a business and as a recruiter, it is vitally important for Search to maintain a strong connection with what’s going on in schools so I’m delighted to be that link and have a hand in encouraging the city’s future workforce.”

Caroline Johnstone, Career Ready’s Regional Manager for the Central Belt, added: “Career Ready gives students with little family background of higher education or professional careers the confidence, skills and networks to achieve their potential – students who need the guidance and opportunities to compete on a level playing field for the best careers in the country.

“None of what we do is possible without our employer supporters, who through Career Ready get the chance to find the next generation of talented employees and develop their own skills. We are thrilled to be working with Simone – she is a great addition to our Glasgow board and team

I know Simone will continue to build the strong relationships we have with the many other businesses we work alongside and will bring some new supporters our way.”
