Time to say goodbye... Search Marketing Intern Interview
Last week was a sad week for the Search Marketing team, as we waved goodbye to our marketing intern, Tom Gerrish. Tom joined the team in 2012 as part of a one-year placement in between his second and final year at university. Before Tom jetted off for the summer holidays, we took some time to pick his brains and find out more about him, his course and exactly what he thought of his 365 days at Search!
- What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?
Reliable, Honest and Driven
- What course are you doing at University?
A degree in Marketing
- How do you think working in the Search Marketing team has benefited your degree?
Experiencing all aspects of working within the marketing team at Search has allowed me to use the skills I have researched at University. Putting everything I have learnt into practice has helped me to develop and (hopefully) become more effective at working in a professional marketing environment. [We can vouch for Tom here – he was a great worker!]
- What skills have you learned at Search?
The key skills I have really developed are: problem solving, reactiveness, time management, team working and organisation.
- Any highlights?
My biggest achievement is without a doubt the 3 months I spent working on SEO. Over the 3 months I spent generating search engine optimised content, the Search website increased its unique visitors by 45% and the page views at the end of the 3 month period were 82% higher compared to the same time in the previous year. It was great to see the direct results and benefits of my work.
- Anything you'd do differently?
Absolutely nothing, I couldn’t have had a better experience at Search.
- Anything you'd like to say before you go?
Thank you to everyone who took the time to help me understand the recruitment world. Thanks also to the marketing team for being patient with me and always being on call when I needed something. My experience at Search has been excellent and I hope in the future that I can work with a team that is as accommodating and helpful as I have experienced with Search.
- Where do you see yourself in a year's time?
Hopefully graduating and starting my career!
Thanks to Tom for taking the time to sit down with us. We can safely say that Mr Gerrish did a fantastic job during his time at Search. We wish him all the best with his final year at University and have no doubt that he’s a professional to watch in the years' ahead!
