Race for Life in Leicester!
The date, Sunday 30th June.
The location, Victoria Park in very sunny Leicester.
The event, Race For Life!
Four members of the Search team in Leicester signed up to raise money for this well deserved cause, have some fun and try to get a little fitter whilst doing it!
In a moment of madness we chose to do the 10km race rather than the 5km... whose silly idea was that?!
Victoria Park was buzzing, a large swathe of pink covering the grass as ladies and their supporters arrived from all corners of Leicester. It was warm... very warm but were all looking forward to our event. We had 3 runners and 1 walker. The runners were Sarah Jones, Priya Pandit and Beth Sutton. The walker was myself, Sue Hamilton-Martin.
Following a very amusing warm up, we were sent to our various starting points and the race began. After jostling a little for position, we were able to set off at a steady pace and all completed the race in much faster times than we were expecting. Sarah completed her race in an amazing 38 minutes, coming 32nd out of the whole field. Well done, Sarah! The rest of us came in with very respectable times. Beth arrived back after 58 minutes, Priya after 1 hour and myself after 1 hour and 13 minutes. Medals and water in hand, we went our separate ways, most heading off for desert and a well deserved drink!
We have pledges so far for £300 sponsorship money and are currently collecting on these pledges. We would welcome any further donations to add to our total!
Here's a wee pic of the team on the day!
